Empanadas de Carne 

Experience the authentic taste of Argentina at Asado Nights, located in the picturesque Park Hyatt Dubai, under the culinary guidance of Chef Rodrigo Llanes. This unique dining concept offers a fresh and interactive way to enjoy Argentinian cuisine, a novel experience in Dubai. To share the flavours of Argentina with your family and friends during Ramadan, we present the recipe for their mouthwatering Empanadas de Carne below.

Ingredients for Empanada Dough: 

  • 500g of wheat flour
  • 1/2 a cup of water
  • 1/2 a tablespoon of salt
  • 100g of bovine fat

Method:

  • Place the water with the fat and salt in a pot. When the fat has melted, remove from the heat, transfer to a bowl and set aside until it cools.
  • Add the flour to form a dough. Place on the counter and knead until you achieve a smooth dough. If necessary, you may add more flour.
  • Let the dough rest, covering it with film (or a nylon bag) for half an hour.
  • After time passes, form balls the size of a ping pong ball. Dredge them in flour and flatten them, maintaining the round shape.
  • Stretch with a rolling pin as follows: stretch, turn the dough a quarter, stretch again, always in quarters and to the same side so that it maintains the circular shape. They have to be 1 mm thick.
  • Fill in with your favourite filling and bake!

Ingredients for Beef Filling: 

  • 500g of lean beef, rough yet finely cut with knife
  • 100g of fat
  • 2 white onions, chopped
  • 2 green onions, chopped, reserve the green
  • 1 boiled egg, chopped
  • 50g of olives, chopped
  • Ground chilli powder
  • Paprika
  • Cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Cooking Method:

  • Sauté the onions in the fat.
  • Add the meat and seasonings (to your taste) until cooked through. Once fully cooked, remove from heat and leave to cool.
  • Add the cut olives and the chopped egg and mix, then add the chopped green onions.
  • Cool mixture in the refrigerator to cool completely.
  • Once cool and you are ready to eat, add the filling the pastry pockets.
  • Either fry or bake your empanadas until golden brown on the outside.
  • Serve the empanadas warm.
